Air in and fuel in: intakes, intercoolers and fuel parts are the core of most power builds. Here is what to check when you buy them direct.

Cold air intakes
An intake replaces the airbox with a less restrictive filter and pipe. Check whether it keeps the factory MAF sensor housing size (a change can need a tune), whether it includes a heat shield, and what filter it uses.
Intercoolers
Front-mount (FMIC) — larger core; may need bumper trimming.
Upgraded OEM-location — easier install; keeps the stock look.
Check core type (bar-and-plate or tube-and-fin), core size, and pipe diameter.
Fuel system parts
Fuel leaks can cause fires. Buy fuel pumps, rails, lines and injectors only from suppliers who state materials and ratings, and have them installed by someone qualified. Bigger injectors or pumps almost always need a tune.
The hard part: finding the real factory
The parts are the easy part. Finding a trustworthy manufacturer is what takes time. The Parts Plug Supplier Vault lists factory-direct suppliers so you can compare listings, photos and specs in one place, then contact suppliers yourself.
FAQ
Does a cold air intake add power?
Gains are usually small on a stock engine and larger on a tuned or turbo car. The sound often changes more than the power.
Do I need a tune for an intercooler?
Usually not, but a tune can make better use of it.
Are cheap fuel parts safe?
Only if the materials and fittings are rated for fuel and the install is done properly. When in doubt, pay for quality.
